Isn't it wonderful?

I've just been floating through some blogs with a big smile on my face -all over the world people are posting little slices of their life, their ordinary and often extraordinary lives for the world to see. It made me think about the beauty in all the little things that pass us by like the stories you share with your friends, the thing you saw that made you smile, that person you spoke to..

I'm (evidently) starting to embrace blogging, am an avid Facebook-er and I'm sure ill end-up on Twitter and anything/everything else that comes along. I wonder if Michael Aspel walked-in on me for 'This Is Your Life' would my red book be a scrap-book of all my status updates and blog-posts?

There are those who roll their eyes at it all but you know what i say - it is what you make of it people!

Taking it all in.

It been a long, but positive weekend.

Nobody should have to set their alarm for 6am on Friday night alas i did and was at the Institute of Education all day Saturday. Im on the grind (as they say) Mon-Fri but Sat marked the start of the taught-modules for my Ma in Leadership which would whisk me and my brain cells away to a better, smarter place.

Im not a proper academic but i do love a bit of learning. Life long baby!
I wont indulge in all the fascinating content of the day's lectures but just to give you a taster below is a link to an article by Michael Maccoby on why we still need leaders who are visionaries.

Another highlight was TED... but more about this another time....

Sunday was spent with my beautiful, beautiful sister who at the age of 15, took ME out for the day. We went to see Blaze at The Peacock theatre where a huge chunk of the audience had come to see Tommy and Lizzie from 'So You Think You Can Dance' -my sister included. In saying that each dancer more than held their own and the production was tight with a much appreciated focus on the dancing without binding it to a narrative. And they were dropping some TUNES too;

Im not far off from this standard myself but i prefer not to be restricted by choreography.

Its not what you know..

This morning, on the way to school, i realised two things;

- I am still saying 'im going to school' and make plans with friends according to half-terms and summer holidays even though these dates no longer having any meaning to them whatsoever.
- I am stretched, drained, given abuse, challenged and stressed every day whilst the world is better paid and has their weekends and evenings to themselves.

Teaching is a full time job -true say.

Im therefore toying with a number of ideas.

1) Card counting in Vegas - potential to dress in a different disguise every night AND make money.

2) Donning a suit in Canary Wharf - crack-out the stilettos...?

3) Devoting myself to my Art and living the Bohemian life - my little fantasy...

The conclusion is that there are options -imaginative ones at that.

Whilst i do love my job i am feeling the pangs of temptation to tip-toe onto the greener grass probably only to to find that its been replaced with gravel.

And why? Because i want to flounce around London wearing over-sized sunglasses sipping frappa-latte-mocha-chinos on my way to work at a friendly hour. I would like to get to know creative, intelligent, accomplished, adult people -not just Shoniqua's cousin in year 7.

Teaching is a beautiful thing but MAN it takes it out of you. And dont even THINK about those adverts on TV asking you if you have considered a career in teaching! My friend, no teacher goes without eye-bags.

Day dot

Im 22, a London-girl, sharing a flat with beautiful people. I have an impressive shoe/clothes collection, a topped-up Oyster card and have developed what i can only describe as a special relationship with my MacBook. I am a qualified Art teacher teaching at a 'challenging' school in the back-end of London and on top of my Sociology degree am doing a part-time Masters in Leadership through The Institute of Education.

Im the person that ticks 'Mixed-other' in ethnicity surveys and have a problem with people who take-up the seat next to them on the bus/tram/tube with their bag -i will ask you to move it.

Why am i writing a blog?

Every morning i wake up regretting not going to bed earlier. The night before i was probably bubbling away on the internet, out pushing the limits of a teacher's mid-week social quota or compiling playlists with inadequate titles that only i will ever appreciate. I also have a habit of trying on all of my clothes in different combinations which occasionally extends to full hair and make-up. This is my journal. For you to read, but also for me, to write.
